Initsys provides a total solution for companies wishing to take advantage of Internet Protocol for ClosedCircuit TV, access control, and alarm transmission with products for installers, integrators, and commercial alarm receiving centres. Initsys calls its technology AAVID – Alarms, Access and Video. This technology allows security companies to overcome problems of speed, bandwidth, and quality on IP networks.

Initsys is partnering with other industries to offer these products. These include camera manufacturers such as Panasonic, IQinvision, and Axis. It is joining with Sun Microsystems and Cisco from the server and networking worlds.

Solving the speed and quality conundrum

Initsys routers form the backbone of many security networks, enabling high quality cameras to work at their best quality, while maintaining high transmission speeds for operators in control rooms. These routers also ensure the retention of network bandwidth for other services.

Initsys routers enable IP cameras to send high quality frames into a network where they are compressed and sent to the control room (ARC). At the control room Initsys routers and plug in software enable alarm receiving centers to rapidly deploy images into standard ARC software. From here these frames can be used for general surveillance purposes. The original higher quality camera images remain in the router where they can be recalled and examined in more detail if needed.

Products

Initsys is looking for worldwide partners in the use of oneof its most interesting products. This is the VerifiedAlarms network. VerifiedAlarms is a subscription based service with its own link to all major Internet service providers in fourteen countries. It provides collecter servers at secure locations in the UK, the USA, and Europe. Since the Internet is designed to download data to users faster than they can upload, the positioning of servers is critical. These servers are placed at the top level of the Internet and are directly connected to networks operated by most Internet providers. It is just a short hop to the server for image upload with no large network to traverse. In real terms this means that it is possible to send larger, higher quality CCTV images than a simple end to end connection could provide.

VerifiedAlarms is a camera independent network using the same AAVID technology described above but operated on behalf of the client ARC and the ISP. VerifiedAlarms solves the bandwidth problem of sending high quality CCTV images from IP cameras for alarm verification. After these images are sent, they are then compressed and made available for the control room to download. Images remain on the server where they can be used for evidence if needed. A totally secure network, with polling and gateways for EN50136 compliant devices, VerifiedAlarms is compatible with most IP cameras. It is particularly suited to the new Panasonic BLC10 which has its own inbuilt infra red detector.

iRecord is a software package for recording images from IP cameras and traditional CCTV. It is linked through an analogue to IP interface, like the Axis 2400 series video server. It includes advanced video motion detection and a secure interface to the VerifiedAlarms network. iRecord is free with a subscription to VerifiedAlarms. Without a subscription, it is available for a small yearly licence fee

IAF (Install and Forget) is a network video recorder for IP based cameras. It includes the professional version of iRecord(+) with InitsysDD(IDD), or Duplex Detection, and it is used when you need ultra reliable detection of activity in protected areas. (see downloads for more information on IDD). IAF includes a point of sale interface, optional digital input output/module iDigital, and status checking of all connected devices.

IDD uses video motion edge detection coupled with real time sensor data to provide very accurate detection and alarm from up to twenty zones in a camera scene. This can be either internal or external detection. This product is ideally suited to scene management mega-pixel type cameras such as the IQinvison range. IDD alarm information can be passed to the control room so that other cameras can automatically pan, tilt, and zoom to the area requiring attention. This makes the tedious monitoring of CCTV screens unnecessary, and the job of control room operators becomes easier and more productive. It also means that less cameras are needed to achieve the same result.

For any system that is expected to transmit images or alarms quickly and securely, speed and bandwidth are major issues. On a local area network there may be fears that CCTV can use up the available bandwidth and reduce the speed for other users. The Initsys FTProuter and iRelay solves this problem by allowing CCTV cameras to send high quality images when an alarm occurs. These images are detected directly by the camera or through the advanced IDD system included in IAF. This means that the bandwidth is only used when it is needed.

Merlin, Initsys's multi-user software for control room use, is capable of linking to many legacy alarm and access control systems. It links directly to most IP enabled CCTV cameras, IAF units, and IDD alarm messages. Easy to use and with many features, Merlin is used in commercial alarm receiving stations and campus type control rooms like those found in universities and hospitals. It is capable of displaying images, alarms, and access control status simultaneously, and it is compatible with Mjpeg and Mpeg cameras. More recently Merlin has been improved to include biometric readers and a control and viewing capability for many DVR systems. Merlin also is available as an easily implemented "plug in" for other alarm receiving center software packages.

Current clients include local authorities, retail, banking, commercial alarm receiving stations, and alarm installing companies. Initsys can be contacted through its website at www.initsys.co.uk or by telephone at +44 (0) 1530 262100.

We are always ready to look at new and innovative solutions. By incorporating the alarm system with IP cameras, we are able to draw on the benefits of visual verification offered via a remote monitoring station. Apart from the intelligent verification of alarms, it also provides our store staff with the reassurance of a qualified response to transmitted camera images.
